RITUAL PERFORMANCES IN RURAL KERALA

Over 400 types of Theyyams are performed in villages on the outskirts of Kannur. From November to May they occur just about daily… if you can find them.

The performances range from men with shark tooth shaped totem poles spinning in straw skirts to men stuck in 6-foot-high shelving units repeatedly kicking a pile of bright hot coals.
